Soccer team takes on Meisei Gakuen

ASIJ-Meisei1 webOn September 8, Middle School Soccer’s A and B teams kicked off this season with an informal scrimmage against Meisei Gakuen Junior High School. Celebrating its 80th birthday next year, Meisei Gakuen is one of west Tokyo’s oldest educational institutions and from this year will be collaborating extensively with ASIJ in the areas of Japanese language studies and sports in both the MS and HS. The event was given even more breadth with the added participation of some of ASIJ’s High School players, veterans of the Middle School Soccer program. Meisei has an extensive academic presence in Tokyo that ranges from a kindergarten to two university campuses, and its junior and senior high schools (combined student body of about 1,500) share a campus in Fuchu, two kilometers west of ASIJ. The MS will next play host to Meisei students on the day of the Halloween parade, to be followed by a visit by ASIJ student’s to Meisei’s campus later in the school year. (Steve Harris, MS Japanese)
