Still Life drawing at the ELC

All fall long, the kindergarten children have been doing still life  drawings. They have drawn sweet potatoes and pumpkins, flowers and  fruit. In still life drawings the children capture in their art what they see in front of them. They are encouraged to look carefully at the composition and to paint what they see by looking closely at the colors, textures, and shapes. It challenges their ability to look at the finer details of everyday objects in their environment and helps them move  away from stereotypical drawings or drawings of how they think things  look instead of what they really see. The children looked at still life paintings by masters before starting their own. All of their hard work paid off when they painted their still life pieces for their parents as their holiday gifts. They truly created gifts that their parents will treasure forever. (Judy Beneventi, ELC Director)
