Bake sale raises ¥185,000 for charity

On February 14, the ELC PTA Community Services Committee sponsored a bake sale.  Parents generously donated baked goods for the bake sale, and many stopped by to purchase a sweet treat!  It made for a very sweet Valentine’s Day and for some sweet fundraising!  The bake sale was a tremendous success and raised over ¥185,000  for our ELC charities including Fukudenkai Children’s Orphanage in Hiroo and Heifer International.  (We do indeed operate on a brownie economy!)

Our Community Services Committee has developed strong ties with the Fukudenkai Children’s Orphanage and has been able to support them over the years.  Also as part of the Petting Zoo experience later this spring, the children select animals through the Heifer Project to donate to families in developing nations.  For more information about the Heifer Project, please visit  It is truly a great way to introduce children to the concept of charitable giving and the difference they can make. Much thanks to PTA Community Services Co-Chairs Maki Ishida Liu, Yuka Quantrille and Hisako Komiyama who organized this event. (Judy Beneventi, ELC Director)
