Over spring break, I was blessed with the opportunity to join the annual Philippine Relief Organization (PRO) trip to Cebu. Our first two days primarily focused on Buyong Elementary School. We donated laptops generously gifted to us from the ASIJ community, and had the privilege of attending their sixth grade graduation.
We were also given the chance to interact with students who are participants in the lunch program PRO funds, meet our current sponsor student Trina Cases, and be introduced to adults whom the club had sponsored in the past. One of the original sponsor students, Lorna, gave a tearful, touching speech about the great impact education had on her life.
Not only did this trip allow us to see the direct effects of our fundraising efforts, it enabled us to see how much of our life we take for granted as well. Attending the trip was an extremely humbling, eye-opening experience which left all participants wanting to do more. (Meg Ito, grade 11 student)
