The beach, surf and critters in the tide pool greeted grade 7 students during the four sessions of the Izu Extended Campus Trip from May 6 – May 17. Students explored the concepts of marine ecology through tide pool and snorkeling activities and expanded their knowledge of water sports through a sea kayak and a surfing lesson. The trip directly supported the science and physical education curriculum. Play time on the beach through different activities and a bonfire helped round out this amazing experience.
The PTA grant to expand the food offerings on the trip to better match the grade 7 health curriculum continued to benefit the trip as students helped prepare meals and participated in the camp kitchen.
The Izu Extended Campus Trip is a highlight for grade 7 students and it really promoted a positive end to a fantastic school year. (Peter Dohrenwend, MS science)
