On June 4, third grade classes hosted a bazaar in which they sold home-made snacks, art work, crafts and other small goodies to raise money for causes of interest to them personally.
The students have been building up to this via a social studies unit based around kids making a difference. They have researched their cause, created campaign promotion, written opinion pieces and created banners and decorations for their stalls at the bazaar. They also created presentations using the iPad and used them on the day of the bazaar to explain why they chose their cause, why it was important, and how to make a difference. The bazaar was visited by other students as well as adults which gave the third graders a chance to explain their cause to a variety of interested attendees.
In just two hours, the bazaar raised ¥122,000 for charity.
