Visitors to the ES library will have noticed the empty shelves and big and small stacks of picture books scattered throughout the library.  In an effort to make the collection more easily accessible to students, teachers and parents alike, the ES library is mimicking a bookstore model. When the dust settles, picture books will no longer be organized by author but by genre. All mystery books together, all sports, pirates, baseball books together and so on.

The ASIJ ES library continues to be innovative when it comes to what’s in the interest of our readers. Last year we did a successful reorganization in the chapter book section along these  genre-based lines. This year it is the picture books’ turn.   This is a huge job requiring the librarians to decide in which genre each of the 4,000 picture books should go, as well as relabeling the physical books and changing the record in the catalog.  While this is happening there is no circulation of picture books. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to be up and running for very soon. (Wouter Laleman, ES Librarian)
