Master bagpipers from Glasgow visit ASIJ

On Monday, October 7, Students in the elementary school welcomed two special guests from Glasgow, Scotland who were in Japan for the St. Andrew’s Society Scottish Highland Games.

Iain McDonald is an international judge of piping, a master bagpiper, performs as a soloist, and has a collection of over 20 different types or bagpipes from around the world. He is a Pipe Major and has brought his pipe band to Japan several times.

David Henderson, a drummer, recently won the British and Scottish drumming championships. Mr. Henderson plays drums with a leading pipe band in Scotland and is a judge of drumming.

Children in kindergarten to Grade 5 listened to a fascinating presentation and performance on the bagpipes and drums. Thank you to ASIJ parent Tim Neely for organizing this with music teachers Jody Fuller and Karolee Kent. We are very grateful for his help in allowing our students to have this unique experience.
