ASIJ fourth graders have been carrying on a school exchange with Fuchu Dai Ichi Elementary School for over twenty years. This year on November 14th, over 100 fourth graders from this local Japanese school visited ASIJ for a day of activities and bonding with our own fourth graders.
From beginning and end of day gatherings with musical performances, to activities including cooperative games, making Eco bags, or using iPads, students spent time working and playing together. Japanese language skills were a great advantage, but kids quickly learned that smiles and body language worked too. It was a wonderful day for all of the students, and our ASIJ fourth graders are eagerly looking forward to their visit to Fuchu Dai Ichi in February. (Deborah Studwell, ES teacher)
