The 17th annual ASIJ Community Fun Run was held on Tuesday, October 6th, a beautiful autumn afternoon. This year’s proceeds went to ’98 Alum Hiro Fujita’s END ALS Campaign.
Preceding the run, Hiro showed a video (above) and gave a brief speech about his battle with ALS and his mission to a full audience of students and faculty in the ASIJ Theater. You can view the presentation on ASIJ TV’s website.
The Fun Run included over 350 participants—students from all divisions, teachers and families—united by the call to “Be a Hero, Run for Hiro.”
Hiro signaled the beginning of this year’s run, which took everybody from our Main Field into beautiful Nogawa Park and back. We raised over ¥200,000 for Hiro’s End ALS Campaign thanks to the generosity of the participants. We would like to give a special thanks to Coca-Cola Co. for sponsoring the Fun Run with commemorative shirts and cold drinks for everyone, and thanks to the Center for School-Community Partnership and Athletics Office for their continued support. We are also especially grateful for Hiro’s return to ASIJ.
The Fun Run is proud to bring people together to celebrate fitness, a sense of community, and to raise awareness and money for charity. We hope to see you at the Fun Run next year! (Dan Smith, Community Fun Run Coordinator)
