Bouncing bunnies, chirping chicks and gallivanting guinea pigs! Kindergarteners welcomed a host of furry and feathered friends when petting zoo professionals, Doubutsu Mura, came to ASIJ on April 8. The zoo consisted of about 15 types of animals including goats, sheep, a dog, a calf, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters and even a dancing cockatoo! The animals provided an opportunity for our students to have a first-hand experience on how to handle, feed and care for them.
The children had a wonderful time petting, feeding and holding their favorite creatures. They were particularly taken by the goats who, just like last year, were eager to eat every carrot in sight.
Everyone was sad to see the animals go but Doubutsu Mura brought a valuable learning experience, marking the start of the kindergarteners’ pet unit.
