It’s a bittersweet time of year when family, friends and faculty once again say farewell to our graduating seniors. On Friday, June 3, the Class of 2016 walked through the campus, visiting each area of school, taking photos and thanking the many people who supported them throughout the years. This ASIJ tradition, the “Senior Walk,” ended when the soon-to-be graduates walked through the historic gate and moved towards a path of class stones, dating back to 1959. Each senior ceremoniously walked the path, reflecting on their own time as high school students, to reach the latest addition: the 2016 class stone.
On Saturday, the seniors gathered at Fuchu-no-Mori Hall to attend their graduation ceremony. Sachi Mochida and Jayne Harris addressed their classmates as this year’s student speakers. The seniors also chose Angela Iagaru (HS English Teacher) as this year’s faculty speaker. Angela delivered a brief speech and ended with a more personal message, in the form of a poem. This milestone in the life of our graduating seniors was live streamed and preserved by ASIJ TV for family and friends around the world. Over three hundred viewers from eleven different countries enjoyed the opportunity to watch the ceremony. The video will soon be available for download on the ASIJ TV website.
Although it’s an emotional time of year as we say goodbye to the Class of 2016, we’re also happy to welcome our newest alumni. If you would like to reminisce along with the Class of 2016, you can check out the graduation slideshow on YouTube.
