Kaori Hakone (high school Japanese teacher) writes on her students’ recently released iBook Let’s Go to Tohoku! 東北へ行こう！
Since March 11, 2011, the ASIJ community has been building strong ties with people in Tohoku. It began as we traveled to help clean up the area and bring food to those who lost their homes after the earthquake and tsunami, and after that we started a program to teach English to elementary school children online.
In the fall of 2016, high school students finally went up to Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture, to meet the students whom they had only previously spoken to online. We taught the English lessons face to face and met the local people. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Therefore, we decided to take you on a tour of Tohoku and share what we experienced through this multi-touch book with two tenth-grade students, Kaitlyn Wu and Emma Anderson.
We hope you will take the trip to Tohoku with us by reading the book, Let’s Go to Tohoku! 東北へ行こう！ For those who live far away from us, if you come to Tokyo, please go to Tohoku as well!
