Fifth Grade Welcomes the Armsteads

Karolee Kent (elementary school music teacher) writes on a recent visit by musicians Melissa Coffey Armstead and her husband Robert Armstead.

On the morning of Monday, Oct 30, two classes of fifth-graders eagerly welcomed two guests for a special musical performance. Melissa Coffey Armstead and her husband, Robert Armstead, of California, visited ASIJ and shared their talents as pianist and bass-baritonist on this special occasion. Melissa performed well-known compositions by many composers including Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy and Rachmaninoff, and her husband joined her in song, singing in both German and in French.

It was a wonderful experience for the audience and provided an excellent example for our students of the gifts of music in our lives and how perseverance, pursuit of excellence and collaboration can shape one’s future.
