In September, ASIJ celebrates homecoming with a week of community-building activities. The flurry of activities culminates in Spirit Day—a day dedicated to cheering on the Mustangs sports teams, playing games, student booths, eating delicious food and, for the second year running, sumo! Although the weather was uncooperative, the rain did not wash away our students’, parents’, faculty and friends’ Mustang Spirit, as we witnessed an amazing turnout. Continue reading

Congratulations Class of 2018!
Family, friends and students from every division congregated all over campus on the morning of Friday, June 1 for another year’s senior send-off. This is the first Senior Walk in the new courtyard and although the stepping-stone path has taken new form, graduates upheld the symbolic walk.
Project UMI Visits Middle School
Tanja Kerbs (middle school librarian) writes on a visit by three student representatives of Project UMI from United World Colleges International School of Asia, Karuizawa (UWC ISAK). UWC ISAK is Japan’s only international boarding high school and member of the United World Colleges movement.

Students Speak at USC Global Conference Panel
Three high school students in the advanced contemporary Japan class reflect on their September 22 and 23 attendance of the 2017 University of Southern California Global Conference, hosted at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo, and their participation in a panel discussion on the use of digital devices and family relationships.
USC’s Global Conference series is a biennial event held in major world cities that brings together academics and business leaders to present and discuss the latest research results across the full range of academic disciplines and their influence. The keynote speaker for this year’s conference was alumnus Kazuo Hirai ’79, who is President and CEO of Sony Corporation. Continue reading
