Pre-K goes to the Aquarium

Our ELC Pre-K students recently wrapped up a unit on animal study where they explored the differences and similarities between  mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. The unit ended with a trip to the Shinagawa Aquarium, thanks to our generous PTA. Pre-K teachers contribute details on the unit and field trip.

Making Connections at Izu

Middle school student Espi Littlefield covers the seventh-grade Extended Campus Trips to Izu—an exploration of tide pools, deep-water snorkeling adventures, kayaking and surf lessons. The experience helped students to get out of the city and into an environment that is in stark contrast to their every day life. Continue reading

ASIJ iGEM Team Competes in Boston Jamboree

ASIJ’s first iGEM team, ASIJ_Tokyo, went to Boston for the iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) competition from October 27th to November 2nd 2016. A team of seven students along with their teacher and advisor, Beth Crissy (high school science), represented ASIJ at iGEM this year, presenting their project on Fast Pace PETase, which focuses on optimizing the biodegradation and bioremediation of PET plastic, using the enzymatic pathway of PETase.

The ASIJ_Tokyo team includes seniors Kien Malarney, Lauren Sekiguchi, Margarette Emin Lee, Prateeksha Rout, Tomi Mcguire and Choryu Sun as well as sophomore Marina Takehana. Prateeksha updates us on their participation at iGEM. Continue reading
